Our Aim

We at Glenroy memorial preschool aim to provide a happy, safe secure and friendly environment where each child will develop independence, creativity, learning, sharing, language and physical skills and respect for each other, in line with the National Early Years Framework.

Our Philosophy

Our Philosophy encompasses four main themes: Our commitment to diversity, our commitment to children’s social/emotional development, our commitment to learning through play and our commitment to parent partnerships.

Commitment to diverse Cultures

Glenroy Memorial Kindergarten acknowledges the  Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land. Our learning community recognizes and values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

We acknowledge and respect diversity in beliefs, culture and tradition, and are committed to cultural safety for all Educators, Families and Children.

Commitment to Relationships

We believe that social and emotional development is the foundation for a positive approach to learning. Our aim is to provide safe, nurturing environment for children to thrive through building respectful relationships. We are committed to the wellbeing of all children.  We foster a strong sense of belonging, allowing all children and families to see themselves and their cultures represented across the program. We will work collaboratively as a team for the best outcomes for our children and their families.

We believe that children have the right to feel safe, respected, supported, heard and have access to quality education. They will be involved in and contribute to decision-making, self-expression that influence their learning and well-being.

Commitment to Partnerships with Families

We acknowledge families as the child’s first teacher. We value and support the connections between the kinder and families, families with one another, and the relationships that develop to enhance the kindergarten community.

Collaborative partnership with families contributes to the program. This partnership is formed by honesty, integrity, respect and open communication. Families are invited and encouraged to contribute to the program, bringing diverse skills into our learning community and kindergarten identity. Reflect: Doubling up.

Commitment to Learning through Play

Play is essential in facilitating children’s development and learning. Through play and a stimulating environment, children have the ability to explore, create, problem solve, collaborate and imagine. These are skills for life. We incorporate intentional teaching and child-led learning into our program. We believe every child is unique, has individual strengths, abilities, needs, and learn at their own pace, and we provide opportunities for all learning styles and abilities.

Children and their families bring a wealth of cultural and linguistic experience, which Educators will draw upon and incorporate in the program. Educators see multilingualism as an asset. They will support children to maintain their home languages, and learn English as an additional language.
